Today is a very special day… it’s my father’s 60th birthday! I am relaying here the words I wrote for him, with one of his favorite tracks accompanying the text.

Bon anniversaire le père!

Je te souhaite sérénité et bonheur pour ta soixantaine, qui démarre sur les chapeaux de roue avec un cadeau que tu t’es retenu d’acheter pendant 30 longues années, ta Harley!

C’est une page qui se tourne, toi la soixantaine, moi bientôt la trentaine, ça fait bizarre. Mais quand on se retourne sur ses 30 dernières années, on y voit à travers les intempéries beaucoup de bonheur, de moments inoubliables passés ensemble. J’espère que l’on continuera dans cet élan, que la flamme d’une relation père-fils que tu as tant chéri reste vive, étincelante même.

Je prends cette occasion pour te remercier de m’avoir tant entouré pendant les 30 années passées, puissions-nous être aussi présents l’un pour l’autre dans les 30 à venir. Je t’aime,

I wish you serenity and happiness for your sixties, which you kickstarted by eventually buying this gift you’ve been holding onto for the past 30 years… Your Harley!

A chapter of our lives ends, you being sixty, me going towards my thirties… it feels weird. Yet when we look back over the past thirty years, we can see through the many hurdles a lot of happiness, unforgivable moments spent together. I hope we will keep this momentum, that the light of a father-son relationship you have so cherished lives on, shining its brightest.

I am taking this occasion to thank you for taking care of me over the past 30 years, may we be as present for each other for the 30 years to come. I love you.
